How to Become an America Reads Tutor

Paid Positions are available for any student enrolled at the University of Florida who is eligible to receive work study as a form of financial aid. No experience is required. Hourly wages are $8.00-$10.00 depending on level of experience.
New and old tutors must complete a paid training course prior to placement at tutoring sites. Tutors must be able to provide their own transportation.

A schedule that allows individuals to work at least two days per week for 2-3 hours each day between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm is required. We also request that individuals commit to at least one semester of work.

Tutors may also earn 2-3 hours of course credit by registering for RED 2000 America Reads Tutoring Independent Work. Contact Dr. Choice for more information on this class.

Individuals interested in applying to become a tutor :

  1. Must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
  2. Must receive Financial Aid/Federal Work Study
  3. Must maintain course credits required to continue to receive work study

In order to receive Financial Aid/Federal Work Study you must complete the application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can fill out the FAFSA form for the 2006-2007 school year anytime after January 1, 2006 and before June 1, 2006. However, please observe that most schools process Financial Aid requests in the early spring, and in order to ensure that you receive funds you should fill out the FAFSA as early as possible. The FAFSA is available at the financial aid office or on the web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
