Dr. Linda Serra Hagedorn is a professor and chair of the department.  She is also the Director of the Institute of Higher Education.  Her main research area is community college student success. For the past six years, she directed the Transfer and Retention of Urban Community College Students Project (TRUCCS). TRUCCS has been following 5,000 Los Angeles community college students through questionnaires, interviews, and transcripts. While the majority of the work is quantitative, the project also employs some qualitative work as well.
Dr. Hagedorn is the Director of the Project: Dual Pathways: Support and Training of Achieving the Dream Data Facilitators and Community College Institutional Researchers.  She is working with a staff to develop and deploy an on-demand, Internet based, modular national training program for community college institutional researchers.

Dr. Hagedorn’s third area of interest is international education.  She has traveled widely and has taught, presented, and/or published in Vietnam, China, and Russia.
