Welcome 2008 New Fellowship Students!
Jennifer S. Cortes
Jennifer is currently pursuing her PhD in Higher Education Administration. Before starting the program, Jen worked at the University of Florida and University of Chicago in student affairs. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Miami University (Ohio) in Zoology and her Master's degree from Indiana University in Higher Education and Student Affairs. During her time at UF, Jen will work with Dr. David Honeyman on issues related to policy, finance, and community colleges.
Mueen A. Zafar
Mueen is pursuing his P.hD. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida. He possesses two Bachelor & two Master degrees. The Master degrees are in Business Administration, from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Karachi, Pakistan, and in Development Policy & Planning, as a Chevening scholar, from the Center of Development Studies, University of Wales, U.K. He has worked in academia where he served as the Head of the Department of Business Administration at the International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan and also taught business related subjects to MBA and BBA students for over ten years, both as full time and part time faculty. In addition, he served the Banking sector for over eighteen years and was serving the MCB Bank Pakistan as Senior Vice President, overseeing their training and HR segments, when he moved to the USA. He worked as an OPS at the Department of Housing, University of Florida for a year and a half. Mueen will be working with Dr. Linda S. Behar-Horenstein.
Deziree Elliot.
Desiree is a joint degree student between UF Levin College of Law and the College of Education. She is an Alumni Fellow and a 2008 Grinter Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. as an advisee of Dr. Craig Wood in Educational Administration and Policy together with the J.D. Her policy research interests include the No Child Left Behind legislation, socioeconomic achievement gap remedies, issues in higher education accreditation, and higher education affordability. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Tennessee, and has spent several years working in state and local government. Her other interests include SEC football, roller derby, baking, foreign languages, biking, writing, international relations, reading, sudoku, travel, and spending time at home with her family. |
