Scholarship and Financial Aid Information
The Office of Recruitment, Retention & Multicultural Affairs (RRMA) administers two scholarships to minority students in the College of Education. Applications for the MES can be obtained in G415 Norman Hall.
Minority Education Scholarship (MES)
The Minority Education Scholarship (MES) is available to minority students in the college who are enrolled full-time in a graduate program.

General Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and alien
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student for each academic term inwhich an award is received.
- For renewal of scholarship, a participant must maintain the GPA required for continued enrollment in the College of Education
- Must have met the registration requirements of the Selective Service Act
- Must not owe a repayment under any state or federal grant or scholarship
- Must not be in default on any federal Title IV or state student loan program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made
Scholarship Awards
- The annual amount of a scholarship will be up to $4,000
- Students are eligible to receive the scholarship for a maximum off our consecutive years
- The RRMA office will notify all applicants nominated for a scholarship of the status of their applications
- Student must re-apply for the award each academic year
Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES)
The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES) is available to newly admitted minority students in the college.

General Eligibility Criteria
- Must be newly admitted into a teacher education program (studentcannot exceed 18 credits of upper division education courses)
- Must be a Florida resident
- Must be member of one of the following minority groups: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American/Pacific Islander or American Indian/Alaskan Native
- Cannot already be a full-time teacher
Scholarship Awards
- The annual amount of a scholarship is $4,000 (distributed $2,000per semester)
- Scholarship awards are distributed for the Fall and Spring semestersonly
- Students may be eligible to receive the scholarship up to six semesters,depending on the length of their teacher education program
Scholarship Conditions
The MTES is renewable as long as the recipient meets their institution's requirements. University of Florida students must:
- Maintain full-time status
- Maintain satisfactory progress of a 3.0 GPA and a minimum semesterGPA of a 2.5
- Meet with a representative in the Office of Recruitment, Retention & MulticulturalAffairs twice a semester
- Attend at least one workshop provided by the Office of Recruitment,Retention & Multicultural Affairs
- Complete three hours of community service
- Attend annual Recruitment & Retention conference
Upon graduation, MTES recipients are required to teach in a Florida public or charter school for the number of years that they received the scholarship. If scholarships recipients do not graduate within 2-3 years, or if graduates do not teach in a Florida public school, they will be required to repay the total amount of the scholarship received at an annual interest rate of eight percent (8%).
