5th Annual SAGE Research Symposium

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The Student Alliance of Graduates in Education (SAGE) invites graduate students from all departments in the College of Education, and teacher researchers at the PK Yonge Developmental School to participate in our 5th Annual Research Symposium. Join us as a presenter or a participant in this initiative to promote a “culture of research” and inter-departmental communication. Discover the wealth of research being pursued in our College!
We encourage all full-time or part-time students enrolled in any graduate program in the College of Education leading to a master’s, specialist, or doctoral degree, or PK Yonge teachers inquiring into their own practice to present your work at our 5th Annual Research Symposium. Students from all departments are welcome to contribute a paper, a poster, and/or round table discussion topic. This can include work you are in the process of finishing.
- SHARE the progress of your research, your teaching ideas and experiences, or materials that you have developed that could be used by other teachers.
- MEET and network with graduate students, faculty and administrators from the College.
- PARTICIPATE in a conference with peers that have similar interests of helping all children learn
- EXPERIENCE presenting your work in a professional and supportive atmosphere before taking it to a State or National convention
SAGE looks forward to your contribution to our fifth symposium.

SAGE would like to thank everyone for such fantastic submissions for the February 9th symposium. If you did submit a conference proposal, you will be receiving notification within the next day or so. Check back soon for updated information regarding presentation scheduling times.
SAGE would like to welcome everyone back. On behalf of all of us, we hope you have a great semester.
January 15th is the deadline for proposals to present at the upcoming SAGE Symposium. The theme for this year is "Contemporary Topics in 21st Education." Proposals for full paper presentations as well as posters will be accepted. Please submit your proposal as an electronic attachment to sage@coe.ufl.edu. The Symposium will be held February 9th in the Norman Hall Terrace Room.
SAGE would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Troy Sadler and all attendees of our 10/19/06 event for taking the time to make our first get-together of the semester such a huge success. We had quite a turnout and look forward to hosting future events.

The Student Association of Graduates in Education would like to invite all Master's and Doctoral students to our first event of the semester. On Thursday, October 19th SAGE is hosting a presentation by Dr. Troy Sadler on how to write conference proposals and presentations. This informative session will take place in the Terrace room and begin at 12:45 p.m.. We would also like to invite you to come and join us for lunch on Thursday, before the presentation at 12:00 in the Terrace room.
This symposium has been designed as a venue to share your work with colleagues and faculty at the College of Education, and to discover shared research interests shared by colleagues you may not be in contact with on a daily basis. It is also an opportunity to receive feedback on your work before presenting at a State or National conference. Please feel free to contact us via email if you have any questions or requests.

Spring 2006 Course Announcement: EDF 6544 Philosophical Foundations of Education
Course Meeting Time: Mondays 3-6 p.m.
Instructor: Dr. Sevan Terzian
This is a graduate-level course that examines the philosophical foundations of education in the western world. This class will explore a series of inter-related questions such as, the ultimate purpose of education, how people learn, and what constitutes knowledge. In investigating these questions students will encounter the works of Plato, John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, William James, John Dewey—and a host of 20th century philosophers.
