Experience
Taught in public schools for a decade. Volunteered, as a public school teacher, one week each semester for the last 30 years.
Served approximately 30 years as a teacher, trainer and professor in public schools, universities, human service organizations, and corporations.
Served as a consultant for education groups of all kinds in nearly 50 states and in 15 foreign countries: Bermuda, Greece, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Canada, Czech Republic, Japan, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Tanzania, Turkey, Kenya, and the NATO organization. Served as a consultant to 50 of the 150 largest school districts in America.
Addressed a total audience numbering more than 100,000 people at state, national and international conferences, workshops and meetings; including guest lectures at 26 universities in America, Canada, France, and Japan in the last 30 years.
Research and Publications
Conducted research in Japan on educational productivity through a grant from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science.
Identified by the Middle School Journal as the “number one ranking scholar” in the field of middle school education through a survey of 241 American university professors and deans.
Published ten books and approximately 150 monographs, chapters in books, journal articles and multi-media materials. Had textbooks adopted for use in dozens of universities and school districts. Had three books described by Middle School Journal as “classics in the field.”
Referred to as “the foremost expert on middle schools in the country” by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), and received the National Middle School Associations Lounsbury Award for lifetime achievement in middle school education.

1. The social organization of schools, including all aspects of middle school education, Japanese education and culture, tracking and ability grouping in American schools, and others.

Personal
Married for 32 years with three children. Enjoys traveling, reading, golf, poker and fishing.
