*NOTE: If you have previously earned a graduate degree from the University of Florida or have previously been admitted to Graduate School at the University of Florida, you should mark the readmission box on the application. Applicants for Readmission should not need to resubmit transcripts or GRE scores to the Office of Admissions.

Applicants submitting an application for Readmission must submit the required higher education application material noted below to the School of Human Development & Organizational Studies in Education, please email these documents to Angela Rowe.

Please upload the Higher Education departmental application material with your UF online graduate application.  (An “upload other” button under the Upload Resume section of the UF on-line application will allow you to upload the writing sample and departmental application. If you cannot upload as separate documents, please combine into one document and then upload the required additional application materials.)

All application material  must be received by the posted deadline. If you can not submit these documents with your online application you may email these documents to Angela Rowe.

  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation. Submitted via the On-Line Application. Letter of Recommendation may also be sent by email or mailed directly to the program.
  • Writing Sample – Three-page limit, double spaced, addressing the question: What should be the primary roles of higher education institutions in our society?
  • Graduate Records Examination:
    For those who have not completed their GRE within the past 5 years, you must retake the GRE (for more information visit ETS).
  • Copies of Transcripts (Bachelor’s and Master’s degree required for admission consideration to the doctoral program)
  • Application for Fellowship or Assistantship fellowship-assistantship form (Ph.D. candidates only)

Doctorate candidates may be subject to an interview following the preliminary approval of all application materials. Generally interviews are in person on campus with one or two faculty members in the student’s concentration field. Interviews may be conducted by phone when circumstances prevent an on campus visit.

Ph.D. program/fellowship application deadline has been extended until January, 15th* for students applying for admission for full-time study beginning each Fall term.


LEAD Ed.D. Higher Education Administration

Applications for admission to the online LEAD Ed.D. Higher Education Administration cohort beginning January 2020 will be accepted beginning January 15, 2019.  All application material must be received before September 15th, 2019. Please note that applications for the Higher Ed LEAD are only accepted every other year. The next cohort is expected to begin in Spring/January 2020.

Allow 2-4 weeks to gather all application materials, including official transcripts and letters of recommendation, as all materials are required for review and admission.

International applicants applicants must submit official TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB scores. Minimum scores required for admission are: TOEFL (computer): 213, TOEFL (Internet): 80, and TOEFL (paper based): 550; IELTS: 6, MELAB: 77.

Official GRE & TOEFL scores must be sent to the University of Florida (institution code 5812).

  • Results of their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • Results of their Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • Submit your college records to the Office of Admissions. If you are attending a foreign university, you must submit transcripts and degree/diploma statement in the native language with a certified, literal (exact) English translation (if applicable). If you are attending a U.S. college/university, you must also submit those transcripts.

We strongly encourage international applicants to apply well in advance of the application deadline in order for degree verification to occur in a timely manner. Please consult the UF International Students website for additional information.

Following the preliminary approval of all application materials, international applicants may be subject to an interview, which may be by telephone, Skype.

Once officially admitted, international applicants are required to document proof of financial support for the first year. The International Student Advisers at the University of Florida International Center (UFIC) will only contact admitted student via email to request this information. The Certificate of Financial Responsibility form will be provided at that time for completion and proof of financial support will also be requested. Electronic copies of the financial support documents is encouraged.

Upon admission, all new students must provide proof of immunizations (more information).  Requirements are as follows:

On-Campus programs – immunization required
Blended/Online Ed.D. program – immunization required
