Admissions Requirements

Admission to the Research and Evaluation Methodology program is based on a comprehensive review of all application materials. The program gives strong consideration to the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, relevant work and/or life experiences, performance in prior undergraduate and graduate coursework (GPA), and scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Admissions decisions are based on selecting outstanding applicants who demonstrate great promise for not only completing their degree, but for becoming a competent professional as well.

Students admitted to the Ph.D. program in the Research and Evaluation Methodology usually obtain a GRE score of at least 301 (combining verbal and quantitative reasoning), with a minimum score of 151 on quantitative reasoning. This is comparable to a total score of 1200 on the original GRE score scale, with a minimum quantitative reasoning score of  650. Occasionally exceptional students scoring below 301 are admitted.International students from countries whose official language is not English must also submit a score on the Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL). A TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test or 213 on the computer-based test or 80 on the internet-based test is required by University of Florida for admission. The Ph.D. program in Research and Evaluation Methodology admits students with Master’s degrees from a variety backgrounds, such as Psychology, Statistics, Mathematics, and Marketing. Coursework and experience with statistics is required for admissions to the Ph.D. program. Students who hold only a bachelor’s degree can apply to a joint M.A.E./Ph.D. program, and are required to complete a master’s thesis and a doctoral dissertation.

The M.A.E. and M.E.d. programs are best suited for individuals with strong interest in educational statistics, psychometrics, evaluation, educational measurement and assessment, and educational research, but that do not have an extensive coursework in these areas. However, basic knowledge of statistics at an undergraduate level is required. Applicants to the M.A.E. and M.E.d. program should have an earned bachelors degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution.

Application for admission to the M. Ed., M.A.E, Ph.D. and M.A.E./Ph.D. programs are accepted throughout the year.
