School of Teaching & Learning

Elementary Education

The School of Teaching & Learning is pleased to offer a variety of degrees for applicants interested in elementary education. We have initial certification options, traditional masters, and alternative certification options.

There are two ProTeach elementary education degree programs in the School of Teaching & Learning accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and by the Florida Department of Education. To officially complete the ProTeach program an additional year of study beyond the bachelor's degree leading toward a master of education degree is required. Students that elect to forgo the fifth year may complete the postbaccalaureate program in order to complete a state-approved certification program.

Elementary teachers who already hold a teaching certification (or are eligible for certification) are eligible to apply for a traditional masters in elementary education.

Finally, we offer a route for students holding undergraduate degrees in disperse fields that would like to become elementary school teachers. The SITE program is an intense alternative certification program for these applicants leading toward a Master in Education.

The College of Education has established Academic Learning Compacts for our two undergraduate degree majors. These compacts are effective for all students entering the college as of Fall 2006. Learn more about the Academic Learning Compact for Elementary Education.
