Master's of Education in Reading

The M.Ed. in Reading is an NCATE and State-approved program that entitles you to receive a recommendation for Florida State Certification as a K-12 Reading Specialist.

Area Six: Florida Certification Examination

Prior to graduation, you must submit passing scores on the Florida Certification Exam for Reading K-12, the General Knowledge Test, and the Professional Education Test. If you are a certified Florida teacher, please bring a copy of your teaching certificate and you will only be required to take the Reading K-12 test. For examination information, please pick up a test booklet in Norman 2403 or the College of Education Office of Student Services in Norman G416. You can also find information about the examination from the Florida Department of Education.

NOTE: If you are not already a certified by Florida or have not completed a state approved program by another state, you will need to complete the following co-requisites in addition to the above coursework and examinations.

If you are already certified or have a degree in education from another institution, the program coordinator and graduate coordinator will review your transcript to determine if equivalent courses have been taken and if you have, then the above courses can be substituted.
