Degree Programs
Four different degree options are available for advanced degrees in science and environmental education. Each degree is designed for a specific purpose.
- Master of Education (M.Ed.): this is a non-thesis degree designed for those interested in becoming certified middle or high school science teachers. If you are interested in becoming a certified middle/high school science teacher, you should apply to the M.Ed. ProTeach program.
- Master of Arts in Education (MAE): this is a thesis or research project in lieu of thesis degree option for certified science teachers interested in pursuing an advanced graduate degree.
- Educational Specialist (Ed.S.): this advanced degree program is for experienced, certified science teachers or those having relevant experience in the fiels of science or environmental education. This degree program requires a formal research project and a written and oral examination.
- Doctoral programs (Ed.D. or Ph.D.): this is a terminal degree for experienced, certified science teachers. This degree requires students to successful complete written and oral qualifying examinations along with the defense of a dissertation from an original research study that contributes to the field of science and environmental education.
