Certification Steps for Florida Certification for Secondary ProTeach

Initial Certification Steps

  1. Complete the NCATE and State-approved program--transcript endorsement at the completion of our program. You MUST pass all sections of the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE) in order to be a program completer.
  2. Take, pass, and submit a passing score on the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) Subject Area Exam prior to graduating. You should take the FTCE test for the NCATE and state-approved program you are completing. Information about the FTCE can be found at http://www.cefe.usf.edu.

    Biology 6-12

    Chemistry 6-12

    English 6-12

    Physics 6-12

    Social Sciences 6-12

  3. Take, pass, and submit a passing score on the Professional Education Examination prior to graduation. Information about the FTCE can be found at http://www.cefe.usf.edu.
  4. Take, pass, and submit a passing score on the General Knowledge Examination (all sections including the essay) prior to graduation. Information about the FTCE can be found at http://www.cefe.usf.edu.
  5. When you graduate and request a copy of your transcript from UF, wait until the Statement of Completion stamp has been added to the transcript (approximately 2-3 days after graduation).
  6. Apply for certification using the CG-10 form from the Florida Department of Education. This form is available online at http://certify.doe.state.fl.us/onlineapp/ or hard copies are available in room G416 Norman Hall. You must submit official transcripts and other documentation as well as fees.
  7. Receive from the Florida Department of Education a "statement of status of eligibility" which is effective for three years from the issue date.
  8. Use your "statement of status of eligibility" OR your endorsed transcript from UF to obtain employment in a Florida school district. Your regular certificate will be awarded when you are employed and have completed the fingerprinting requirements for certification.

Out of State Certification

NOTE: The state of Florida does not issue certificates until the applicant is employed by a Florida school district.

  1. Contact the state department of education for the state in which you wish to seek employment to determine their criteria for certification/employment.
  2. Ask about certification examinations for that state. If it is Praxis, you can get registration materials from the COE Office of Student Services in room G416 Norman Hall.
  3. Complete your NCATE and state-approved program so you have that endorsement on your transcript. The NCATE endorsement is recognized by a large number of states nationwide.
