Application Procedures for the Literacy & the Arts specialization in the English Education Program

Below you will find a summary of procedures for application to the Graduate School of the University of Florida.

Some notes, and answers to FAQs:

Þ    The application will ask which degree and program you are applying for:

o      You are applying either for the Ed. Specialist (Ed.S.), or for the Master's in Education (M.Ed.), NOT the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.).

o      The "College/School" is: COE/STL (College of Education, School of Teaching & Learning)

o      Your "Program/Major" is: CUI (Curriculum & Instruction)

o      Your "Specialization within major" is: Literacy & the Arts

Þ    To complete the application you need to send:

o      1 Completed application form - Send this to the Admissions Office, Criser Hall. (Available on-line or as a PDF file.)

o      A statement of purpose - Send this directly to the College of Education, Department of Instruction and Curriculum ("the department") at the address on this letter.

o      3 letters of reference - Send these directly to the department. (Forms available online or PDF)

(If you finished school within the last 5 years, these references must be academic. If you have been out of school for more than 5 years, the references may be professional.)

o      Official GRE score report to be requested from the Educational Testing Service - Send this to Admissions with your application form. (Note: a minimum score of 1,000 is required for admission to the UF Graduate School, and a minimum of 400 in the verbal section for admission to this program.)

o      2 sets of official, sealed transcripts - Send one set to Criser Hall with your application form and GRE scores. Send the other set directly to the department. (Note: A "B" average in all upper division undergraduate course work is required for admission.) (It is not necessary to send a transcript for work completed at the University of Florida.)

* If you have attended UF within the past two semesters, or are currently attending classes in another program/department, you may not need to apply again. Please contact the admissions office or the department for more information.
