ELEMENTARY, SITE, & SPECIAL ED FULL-TIME INTERNS — Wednesday, January 28th
If you are completing your full-time internship this SPRING as an Elementary, SITE, or Special Ed intern, plan to attend the Professional Orientation Seminar on Wednesday, January 28th at the Kirby Smith Board Room. The session will be from 1:30-3:00pm. Two local principals will share information about interviewing and expectations of first-year teachers. Questions will also be answered about certification. IMPACT Info Session – Tonight, Wed, Jan 28th from 7-8pm in Matherly 51

SAGE Workshop: Preparing a CV & Cover Letter — Thursday, January 29th @ 11am in the Terrace Room
Your job search starts now! Learn what to include on your CV, how to display your accomplishments, and strategies of designing a well-composed cover letter. Join us as COE professor Dr. Corinne Manley shares her insight and answers questions on landing the job interview.


Spring 2015 Degree Application — Friday, January 30th @ 5pm
If you will be completing your degree requirements in Spring 2015, applications for award of the degree are being accepted through ONE.UF under the My Record menu> degree application from the ISIS left menu. The application deadline is January 30th by 5:00pm. Education minors and undergraduate students can stop by the Office of Student Services to complete a graduation check before completing their degree applications. Let us make sure you are set to go! Graduation checks can also be completed by sending a request to studenthelp@coe.ufl.edu.


ECC will be hosting a fundraiser at Jason’s Deli THIS Friday, January 30th from 5-10PM. Please come out and enjoy a great meal in support of ECC! Our next workshop will be held February 18th in the Terrace Room at 7PM. We will be having teachers from Alachua County share with us how to prepare for the first week of school. Don’t miss out on this helpful information for all future educators! As always, there will be free prizes for everyone and pizza! Summer 2015 Study Abroad Deadline
Interested in studying abroad this summer? Depending on the length of the program, deadlines for application are due as early as Feb 13th. The UF International Center offers weekly information sessions and walk-in advising 9:35am-4:55pm every day. Also, there will be a Study Abroad Fair next Wednesday, Feb 4th from 10am-3pm on the Plaza of the Americas. Consider making your gator education a global one!


Is Study Abroad in your plans? Let the College of Education help!
Study abroad can be expensive with flight tickets and tuition. The College of Education wants to help make your plans of studying abroad affordable with the COE Study Abroad Scholarship. Two scholarships, each worth $1,500, will be awarded to students looking to gain perspective and experience to later take into the educational field. Applications are due by Friday, February 27, 4pm. Please submit this application directly to scholarships@coe.ufl.edu.


Newman Civic Fellows Awards
Honor a student who is a leader among their peers and has the motivation and ability to make positive contributions to society. Calling all College of Education UNDERGRADUATE students that received a 3.75 or higher in Fall 2014! In recognition of your hard work, you have earned your place on the Dean’s List. Congrats! If you would like a formal certificate to celebrate your accomplishment, please email studenthelp@coe.ufl.edu from your Gatorlink address (include your full name and 8-digit UF ID). We will confirm when you can come collect your certificate for your professional portfolio. Keep up the good work and stay gator strong!


Returned Peace Corps Volunteers – there’s a group for you! Join us for our upcoming events!
Whether you’ve just returned from service or have been back for a while, the Gainesville Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Association (GRPCVA) would like to invite all area-Returned Peace Corps Volunteers to two upcoming events:

Happy Hour at local brewery First Magnitude Brewing Company on Thursday, February 19 starting at 5:30PM. First Magnitude typically has a food truck on-site or you can bring your own food. It’s also a family-friendly brewery (with a life-size Jenga set). Look for a RPCV sign when you arrive!

We will also be hosting a general meeting over dinner at Blue Agave on Thursday, March 19 from 6-8PM. Come for some fabulous food and stay to hear about other GRPCVA events and elections! UF’s America Reads program is currently hiring tutors for the Spring 2015 semester. America Reads is a Federal Work Study program that provides literacy tutoring to at-risk students in the Gainesville community. Paid positions are available for students enrolled at the University of Florida who are eligible to receive Federal Work Study as a form of financial aid. Tutors must be available at least 2 days per week and for at least six hours per week. Applications can be found on the America Reads website at https://education.ufl.edu/america-reads/. Applications should be submitted via email at read@coe.ufl.edu or in person to the America Reads office, located in G504 Norman Hall (if no one is available in the office, it is acceptable to slide the application under the door). Babysitter/Nanny Needed
Looking for a baby sitter/ nanny for two boys 8 and 11 on Tuesday from 5:30-8pm and Wednesday from 4-7pm.
