Sarah Saavedra – UFTeach Program

Published: Sep 6, 2011 •• Category: spotlights, UFTeach Profiles

Sarah Saavedra was a liberal arts and science biology major that just graduated in December of 2011. She began the UFTeach program her first semester here in 2008 when the program was founded. She entered her last semester with the program in the fall of 2011 and was thrilled to start her internship in a local Alachua county school. Both of her parents are brilliant teachers and have inspired her to follow in their footsteps by sharing her passion of science and nature with her students. Sarah also had an internship through UFTeach in which she helps Step 1 students develop their science lessons. Eager to start teaching, she continues to enlarge her miscellaneous science collection and tends to her classroom pets in training, Irwin the lazy bearded dragon and Inca the baby chaco tarantula.“The thought of sharing my passion for nature and possibly being that one teacher that makes children fall in love with the subject is unbearably exciting. The UFTeach program has prepared me for just that. I now have the ability to truly make a difference in my students’ lives and not to mention have fun doing so.”
