{"id":11008,"date":"2024-05-23T11:11:42","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T15:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/education.ufl.edu\/alumni\/?p=11008"},"modified":"2025-08-06T16:58:04","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T16:58:04","slug":"four-time-edugator-transforms-santa-fe-college-education-with-community-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/education.ufl.edu\/alumni\/2024\/05\/23\/four-time-edugator-transforms-santa-fe-college-education-with-community-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Four-time EduGator transforms Santa Fe College education with community initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Four-time EduGator transforms Santa Fe College education with community initiatives<\/h2>\n<p>Jennifer Homard left the College of Education in 2019 with four degrees under her belt, and she isn\u2019t slowing down anytime soon as she transforms her community through her job at Santa Fe College.<\/p>\n<p>Homard (B.A.E \u201898; M.Ed. \u201899, Ed.S. \u201809, Ed.D. \u201819) originally arrived at UF to pursue a degree in physical therapy, she soon found herself called to another path \u2013 education. She then began the bachelor\u2019s in Elementary Education ProTeach program and hasn\u2019t looked back since.<\/p>\n<p>Homard earned a master\u2019s degree in Elementary Education, a <a href=\"https:\/\/education.ufl.edu\/educational-leadership\/prospective-students\/on-campus-eds\/\">specialist\u2019s degree in Educational Leadership<\/a> and in 2019 received her <a href=\"https:\/\/education.ufl.edu\/higher-education\/prospective-students\/hybrid-edd\/\">doctorate in Higher Education Administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the college, she has worked in local classrooms and as a curriculum specialist for the Alachua County School District. Today, she serves as the executive director of secondary programs for Santa Fe College.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Jennifer Homard greeting Santa Fe College students<\/p>\n<p>Since earning her most recent degree from UF, Homard has been busy creating new educational programs within her job at Santa Fe College. In 2020, Homard pitched the idea of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfcollege.edu\/academy\/\">Academy of Science and Technology<\/a> to SF President Paul Broadie II. She wanted a school that offered college curriculum and industry certifications that also required no entrance barriers or costs for students. After three years of planning, the school had its first cohort of 75 ninth grade students this past fall.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not all she\u2019s been up to.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2021, the college president teamed up with community partners and Homard to start the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfcollege.edu\/cte\/acb\/\">ACB Excel program<\/a> to aid unemployed adults with children in the K-12 education system. They put adults in a free workforce program in the evenings with free childcare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[At the beginning,] we had no idea the true impact of this program,\u201d Homard said. \u201cTheir children are watching them better themselves through education, it&#8217;s gonna automatically better the family and break that cycle of poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Homard isn\u2019t running these programs, she teaches a college class on teaching diverse populations for inspiring teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so rewarding to do these things at Santa Fe, it feels like my legacy,\u201d Homard said.<\/p>\n<p>Homard attributes her postgraduate success to what she learned in Norman Hall, especially the internship opportunities from the college and its professors.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI walk into Norman Hall and see people who have been there for decades now and it makes me feel at home,\u201d Homard said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jennifer Homard left the College of Education in 2019 with four degrees under her belt, and she isn\u2019t slowing down anytime soon as she transforms her community through her job at Santa Fe College.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":21,"featured_media":11010,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-11008","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-alumni"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.0 (Yoast SEO v22.0) -
