Kevin S. Sutherland, Ph.D. is a Professor of Special Education and Disability Policy and research faculty at the Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development at VCU. Dr. Sutherland has been PI or Co-PI on a number of federally-funded research and training projects. Most recently he is PI of the BEST in CLASS-Elementary RCT (co-PI Conroy) and is currently co-PI of an NIMH R01 project examining the sustainment of BEST in CLASS (MPI- McLeod and Sutherland). His research focuses upon methods to increase effective instructional practices in classrooms and schools for students with/at-risk for EBD, intervention fidelity measurement, and intervention development. Dr. Sutherland has published over 100 refereed articles and chapters, has served on three What Works Clearinghouse panels creating practice guides to support teachers’ use of evidence-informed practices, and is an Associate Editor at School Mental Health. Dr. Sutherland is a former teacher of students with EBD in both residential settings as well as elementary and middle schools.
