In the computer science track of the UFTeach program, you major in a CS discipline while earning a specialized minor in education. This program prepares students who wish to teach computer science in Florida at the middle and high school levels.\u00a0UFTeach includes field experiences in local schools and prepares students to take the\u00a0<\/span>FTCE CS Certification Exam<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

UFTeach offers an ideal way to combine your academic interests with your teaching goals, confidently preparing you to enter the classroom after graduation. <\/span>This<\/span> is an alternative certification program. Specifically, it is a Professional Training Option (PTO) meant to prepare math, science, or computer science students for temporary teacher certification in Florida. Professional teacher certification is attainable after one year of successful teaching in a Florida public school, and the program fulfills the teaching coursework mandated by <\/span>Florida State Board of Education Rule 6A-4.006(2), FAC<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UFTeach minor is open to all CLAS undergraduate computer science majors as well as engineering computer science and computer engineering majors.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

UFTeach Computer Science Course Topics<\/h2>\n

The courses in the UFTeach program provide:<\/p>\n

  • deep-level understanding of mathematics, science, and computer science content<\/span><\/li>\n
  • deep-level understanding of methods to effectively teach mathematics, science, and computer science<\/span><\/li>\n
  • compact degree plan that allows most students to complete degree and PTO requirements in four years<\/span><\/li>\n
  • early and well-supported field experiences with K-12 students in schools, as well as in informal educational settings<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • The UFTeach minor is open to all CLAS undergraduate computer science majors as well as engineering computer science and computer engineering majors.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Admission to this minor requires a UF GPA of 2.5 or better.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Students must apply for acceptance to the minor within the college of their <\/span>major<\/span> and the College of Education. This process takes place after earning 45 credits but before earning 100 credits.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
