For example, students are encouraged to work with faculty members in consulting, writing, or professional organization activities whenever such opportunities arise.

Student interns are responsible for maintaining accurate records (i.e., logs) of their time expenditures and activities during their Internship in Counselor Education. These records are to be presented to their individual supervisor at the conclusion of the internship.

A member of the Counselor Education faculty must supervise the student during each Internship in Counselor Education. Students receive one hour per week of individual supervision and one-half hours per week of counselor education group supervision in this regard.

Internship in Agency Program Administration

The Internship in Agency Program Administration (MHS 7946) is an optional elective internship intended to allow students to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities related to administration and management roles within agency settings. Agency settings may include counseling agencies, school district guidance services, and counselor education departments. This experience can be developed in partnership with a student’s doctoral supervisory committee and relevant administrators who may serve as the student’s supervisor.

Once a student has identified she/he wants to develop and internship in agency program administration, identify an individual who will agree to serve as a supervisor. With that supervisor, identify goals and objectives for the experience, mentoring needs, and projects to be developed. Identify the intern’s role in the agency and negotiate a work schedule. Develop a Prospectus outlining these items. The prospectus will be used by the student and supervisor to evaluate progress.

At the end of the experience, the supervisor should complete an End-of-Term Report evaluating the student’s progress.

Both the Prospectus and End-of-Term Report are submitted to the department’s clinical coordinator according to the dates provided to receive a grade for the Internship.
