Early Childhood Practitioner Leader (Online courses)
The early childhood practitioner leader track includes coursework focused on the practice of early childhood care and education related to early learning and development. This track is focused on birth through age eight. Coursework (see below) includes a focus on early childhood curriculum, child development, and effective early childhood instructional and assessment methods. An applicant who chooses this program track is a current practitioner or has plans to become a practitioner with focused leadership intentions related to curriculum, instruction, and early childhood practices.
Fall Year 1 – need 6 credit hours if full-time, need at least 3 credit hours if part-time
- EEC 6615 – Early Childhood Background and Concepts (Fall C) (online or in-person/hybrid) (3 credit hours) *required your first semester
- EEC 6205 – Early Childhood Curriculum (Fall A) (online) (3 credit hours)
Spring Year 1 – need 6 credit hours if full-time, need at least 3 credit hours if part-time
- EEC 6405 – Families as a Context in Early Childhood Studies (Spring A) (online) (3 credit hours)
- EEC 6818 – Assessment and Evaluation in Early Childhood Settings (Spring B) (online) (3 credit hours)
Summer Year 1 – need 6 credit hours if full-time, need at least 3 credit hours if part-time
- EEC 6667 – Theory & Analysis in Early Childhood Policy (Summer A) (online) (3 credit hours) *required
- EEC 6905 Internship course (Summer C) (online or in-person/hybrid) (3 credit hours) – can be moved to another semester, if needed
Fall Year 2 – need 6 credit hours if full-time, need at least 3 credit hours if part-time
- EEC 6933 – Professional Learning (Fall C) (online) (3 credit hours)
- EEC 6971 – Thesis or EEC 6950 – Project in Lieu of Thesis (Fall C) (online or in-person/hybrid) (3 credit hours) *3 credits must be taken in fall of your last year
Spring Year 2 – need 6 credit hours if full-time, need at least 3 credit hours if part-time
- Elective course (to be chosen based on focus of Thesis or Project in Lieu of thesis to support interest area)
- EEC 6971 – Thesis or EEC 6950 – Project in Lieu of Thesis (PILOT) (Spring C) (online or in-person/hybrid) (3 credit hours) *3 credits must be taken in spring of your last year
