Counseling and Human Services<\/h1>\n

The UF counseling and human services specialization prepares students for careers supporting individuals and communities through social services, education and behavioral health fields.\u00a0 With a unique focus on understanding human development and strengthening the interpersonal communication skills needed to support people\u2019s well-being, this track prepares you for the complexities of working in helping professions. Graduates work in social services, nonprofit organizations, and education support services, and are prepared to pursue graduate degrees in <\/span>counseling<\/span><\/a>, social work, psychology and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you’re driven by a deep desire to support others’ mental health and wellness, this UF counseling specialization provides the foundational knowledge and applied skills to make a difference. You’ll study the wide variety of lived experiences while developing skills to support the academic, social and emotional well-being of others. With this specialization, you\u2019ll apply these insights to real-life situations, strengthening your ability to support in schools, communities and other settings.<\/p>\n

Learning extends beyond the classroom. We emphasize hands-on activities like structured role-plays, case study analyses, and community-based assignments to connect theory to practice. This specialization also offers our undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue research with our expert counselor education faculty. With opportunities in counselor education and training, mental health, and educational support systems, we mix theoretical knowledge with practical application to prepare you for your career and advanced graduate study.<\/p>\n

We designed this pre-professional specialization to meet today’s most pressing societal challenges. Coursework aligns with national trends, including the need for professionals trained in prevention, early intervention and wellness promotion.
