Step 1: Submit your University of Florida Graduate School Application

  • In the the Application Information Tab, under the Location of Intended Program, select Distance Education.
    • Under Program of Study, select Student Personnel in Higher Education – Master of Education (MED) as your desired program
  • A $30.00 (non-refundable) Application Fee is required. Credit card payments require an additional $7.00 processing fee

Step 2: Supporting Application Material

When completing your online application to UF, you will be asked to upload your STATEMENT OF PURPOSE and RESUME. Please upload these items as PDF documents.

All additional Required SPHE Program Application Materials (see below) must be uploaded under the Other Upload section (label it SPHE Application Materials) after you have uploaded your resume. The writing sample should be saved and uploaded as a PDF document:

Required SPHE Program Application Materials

  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation (applicant provides name and contact information, and the recommender receives a link to upload the letter online)
    • At least one of these MUST come from a professional contact in higher education/student affairs, preferably a current or former direct or indirect supervisor. The second letter may come from another professional contact in higher education/student affairs or a former instructor of yours.
  • Statement of Purpose (upload as a PDF)
    • Specify your career goals and how your study at the University of Florida relates to those goals. Include evidence of your interest in, commitment to, and/or potential for leadership in the field of higher education.
  • Résumé (upload as PDF under the Resume section)
    • Pursuant to Florida Statute, your application requires inclusion of all post-high school education and employment, as well as information about ongoing international affiliations and research funding. Please ensure this information is included on your résumé.
  • Writing sample REQUIRED (upload as a PDF under the Other Section) that answers the following question:
    • What role should Student Affairs professionals have in the student experience? (3-page limit, double-spaced)

The Student Personnel in Higher Education master’s program does NOT require a submission of Graduate Records Examination (GRE) scores.

NOTE:Previously enrolled graduate students, who have skipped two or more terms, and are looking to return to the exact same program and degree level at which they previously attended, should apply using the Returning Student Application.

    Application Deadlines

    • Applications for admission to the Online SPHE M.Ed. for next Fall will begin to be accepted November 1.  Applications must be received by March 1. Because of the holistic review process, applicants are typically notified between April 15 and May 1.
    • Allow 2-4 weeks to gather all application materials, including official transcripts and letters of recommendation, as all materials are required for review and admission.
