Rising to the challenge, again and again, has given us ample opportunities for growth — helping to build an unstoppable momentum. Rising in the rankings is evidence of the outstanding work from students, faculty and staff here at the University of Florida, but it doesn’t paint the full picture.
We are actively working to change the world, exploring unknowns and developing the learning environments of the future, and paving the way for the next generation of educators and researchers through top-ranked programs.
Great accomplishments from the past year include:
- Launching the Institute for Advanced Learning Technologies and recruiting top-talent in AI, data mining, machine learning and computer science.
- Growing our programs in computer science education and teacher preparation to meet future K-12 learning needs.
- Expanding our resources and reach to address literacy challenges across the country.
Academic excellence is ingrained in all we do, guiding our efforts to make a meaningful impact on society. It is with this mindset that we will continue to rise in every way.

We are removing barriers and building bridges to increase opportunities for every learner.
The UF Lastinger Center for Learning is partnering with education leaders statewide to implement the New Worlds Reading Initiative, established in law by the Florida Legislature, to reduce barriers to student success by increasing access to books, building families’ capacity and providing professional development supports to teachers.

We are leading transdisciplinary efforts to create a future where every child is given the opportunity to succeed.
From its inception in 2011, and in collaboration with its partners, the Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies has generated more than $43 million in grants and endowments, advancing practice and policy toward equitable and meaningful outcomes for all young children, their families and the practitioners who serve them.

Leading P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School for the past 12 years, Lynda Hayes has secured more than $55 million in competitively-funded state and federal research, development and training grants, and grown the school with newly constructed K–5 and secondary buildings. Partnering with researchers from UF and beyond, the team is expanding research capabilities to explore teaching and learning practices, to shape the learning environments of the future. We are preparing leaders to analyze, develop and administer complex policies and to transform education through collaboration.

Faculty at the UF College of Education continue to push the boundaries of technology for learners everywhere.
The newly formed Institute for Advanced Learning Technologies (IALT) supports learning technology faculty and student researchers, leading-edge labs and teaching facilities, and academic, industry and government partners, who are all driven by a passion to transform education.
UF, home of the fastest supercomputer in higher education, has taken a collaborative approach toward artificial intelligence, big data and data mining, computational psychometrics, machine learning and other forms of advanced technologies. Researchers are engaged in cross-institution and cross-disciplinary partnerships, to create the learning environments of the future.
Research ranges from preparing the next generation of scholars to identifying and addressing yet-to-be- known learning barriers to natural language processing. Current projects include: AI-powered precision learning, stealth assessment of digital learning ecologies, AI analysis of large-scale LMS data sets, machine learning of motivations in online education and AI-optimized test preparation and administration.
Our integrated approach to the research and development of real-world solutions is advancing understanding and incorporation of educational technologies that boost learning outcomes for all learners.
