Elementary education senior Rachel Manes is one of 31 UF students awarded the J. Wayne Reitz Scholarship for 2005-2006. Recipients are honored for their leadership, service and academic excellence, and each receives an annual scholarship of $2,500.

The award is named after J. Wayne Reitz, who served as UF president from 1955-1967. The scholarships are renewable annually for up to three years.

Manes is a member of Florida Cicerones, Florida Alternative Breaks and Floridance. Her leadership roles include serving as a Preview staff member, group fitness instructor, College of Education ambassador and Unified Elementary ProTeach student representative.

Manes, of Davie, Fla., is working toward a master’s degree in elementary education, specializing in children’s literature.
