Activities
The committee reviewed and recommended proposals for the:
- Research Opportunity Seed Fund
- University Faculty Research Fellowship
- Excellence Awards for Assistant Professors
Goals for 2022-2023
Goal 1: Standardize a review process for various awards, so that we might have continuity in committee for years to come.
Progress: Different approaches used for varied awards due to meeting/timing constraints, including synchronous committee meeting for reviewing the Research Opportunity Seed Fund and via asynchronous individual reviews for the Excellence Awards for Assistant Professors.
Goal 2: Attempt to more clearly outline priorities across awards; work to communicate this to faculty.
Progress: The committee made recommendations to Dr. Adams to clarify the role of the committee in choosing multiple candidates for the University Faculty Research Fellowship. The review of this award prompted the committee to consider providing positive feedback to faculty members, given that faculty members met all qualifications for this award.
Goal 3: Work to simplify bureaucratic excess within grants (e.g., long proposal with detailed budget for a small award).
Progress: The committee will discuss this issue at their final meeting in April, 2023. No changes were made to existing calls for proposals.
Priority for 2023-2024 RAC Committee
Work to simplify bureaucratic excess within grants (Goal 3).
