                  EduGator Central Updates<\/strong><\/p>\n

                    \n
                  • University is moving to a new scholarship system called Scholarship Universe<\/li>\n
                  • The have asked us to pilot this year and we agreed because our scholarship process is fairly robust and complicated<\/li>\n
                  • Still working on what that will look like<\/li>\n
                  • Typically, scholarship applications open around now and go through February and then the scholarship committee starts making decisions<\/li>\n
                  • May not be exactly on that timeline<\/li>\n
                  • A new thing we have tried doing this year is advertising our scholarship process to applicants interested in coming to the university to help recruit<\/li>\n
                  • Doubled the number of new matriculants who received scholarships by doing that<\/li>\n
                  • 1\/3 of applications were from applicants to programs<\/li>\n
                  • With Scholarship Universe, the university has decided that they’re not allowing anyone who hasn’t already been admitted to a program to apply for scholarship<\/li>\n
                  • Kind of derailing our purpose and direction<\/li>\n
                  • Negotiating with them what that could look like to find a better way to get applicants to our programs through this process and help them consider funding as part of their decision to come to UF.<\/li>\n
                  • What we’re trying to do with scholarship is both support existing students, but really draw students to the university with additional funding<\/li>\n
                  • Still in the works so more to come on this<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    Dissertation Mentoring Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n

                      \n
                    • Received nominations and sent to the Lectures, Seminars and Awards FPC Committee to make their final two recommendations for faculty<\/li>\n
                    • Will then go to the Dean to finish up the nomination process in early Spring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                      UF StARS<\/strong><\/p>\n

                        \n
                      • Presidential funding, to build COE infrastructure for undergraduate research<\/li>\n
                      • Please see Kent Crippen’s email sent on Friday (11\/15) with the first targeted opportunity for faculty. There is a brief information video and survey to complete regarding faculty interest in hosting a University Scholar.<\/li>\n
                      • The email discusses:\n

                        • Taking a scaffolded approach to undergraduate research infrastructure<\/li>\n
                        • The university has what they call the University Scholars Program, and we are starting with that as the first opportunity faculty can use to get engaged with undergraduate research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                        • Please spread the word to colleagues about the email and encourage them to complete the survey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                          Field Experiences and Clinical Placements<\/strong><\/p>\n

                          • 114 interns and 120 practicum students in school and clinical placements this fall<\/li>\n
                          • Working on spring placements for almost 100 interns and over 80 practicum students this spring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                            International Student Achievement Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n

                            • Sponsored by the UF International Center<\/li>\n
                            • Give awards to five graduate and five undergraduate students<\/li>\n
                            • Last year we had none and this year we have two, one in each category<\/li>\n
                            • We will participate in an Awards Ceremony hosted by the International Center to honor the students on Tuesday evening (11\/19)<\/li>\n
                            • Ri Ayat Ainui Bashirah (Outstanding Graduate \u2013 Math Education)<\/li>\n
                            • Edgar Martirosyan (Outstanding Undergraduate \u2013 Education Sciences)<\/li>\n
                            • Also had five or six certificates of merit that will be awarded<\/li>\n
                            • Those students will also be recognized Tuesday (11\/19)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                            College Curriculum \u2013 Angela Kohnen \/ Tara Mathien<\/strong><\/p>\n

                                            • Not much to say, everything is moving along<\/li>\n
                                            • If you know anybody that is trying to do curriculum, December 2nd is the deadline<\/li>\n
                                            • Make sure everyone is aware of who their CCC member is within their department<\/li>\n
                                            • Simple things are confusing people and CCC members are there to help<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                              • Tasked last year with keeping an eye on the CBA and the possible dissolution of the union and what impact that might have on our contracts<\/li>\n
                                              • Specifically, looking for things in the CBA that were at risk of being removed but could be potentially be instantiated with policy<\/li>\n
                                              • That is on hold right now, but told to continue the work<\/li>\n
                                              • PTR revisions this year<\/li>\n

                                                    • However, carryover items were largely in response to strategic initiatives of previous administration<\/li>\n
                                                    • Uncertain as to how much makes sense to actually carry over these items since strategies have changed<\/li>\n

                                                        Technology and Distance ed \u2013 Katy Chapman<\/strong><\/p>\n

                                                        • Discussed two courses that would be offered either as a Canvas course or an in-person workshop<\/li>\n
                                                        • Courses would go over online teaching methods for adjunct and new faculty<\/li>\n
                                                        • Both would be offered at the beginning of the semester<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                                          Elections Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n

                                                          • Met on Thursday (11\/14)<\/li>\n
                                                          • In process of setting up meeting with Erica<\/li>\n
                                                          • Trying to meet in a couple of weeks<\/li>\n
                                                          • Then meet with folks at PKY<\/li>\n
                                                          • Chris Thomas digging into see what he can find about the process of how senators are apportioned<\/li>\n
                                                          • Angela Kohnen explained that they have been charged with providing recommendations for how to allot senators between regular COE and PKY<\/li>\n
                                                          • Hopefully bring ideas in February meeting to review and then we can vote something in before elections take place in spring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
