Project RELATE

Project RELATE is a doctoral leadership project in the School of Special Education, School Psychology, and Early Childhood Studies (SESPECS) at the University of Florida. Participation in Project RELATE leads to a Ph.D. in special education with an emphasis in early language and literacy development and disabilities.

The project is designed to prepare special education researchers and teacher educators for positions in higher education. The project’s focus is on early language and literacy intervention research and practice for addressing the challenging instructional needs of children, age three to grade three, with disabilities and those at risk for school failure.  A particular emphasis of the project is on working with children and families from high poverty schools and preschools.

Project graduates will be prepared to teach preservice teachers in teacher education programs and practicing teachers in professional development activities. They will also be prepared as researchers who can both produce high quality research and effectively translate available research into practice. The doctoral preparation in language, literacy, early childhood, and disabilities is integrated, collaborative, research-based, and interdisciplinary.

Project RELATE is funded by the US Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (Award #H325D100055).
