Kate Zimmer

Kate Zimmer began her doctoral studies in the Fall of 2009.  She received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Saint Leo University and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida.  Kate taught at the elementary level for seven years in a multi-age classroom serving students with a variety of special needs. She was also involved in pediatric research on ADHD, childhood anxiety and childhood depression. Kate’s research interest includes early intervention for autism spectrum disorders, effective early instruction for literacy, and cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Kate’s dissertation study examined the effects of a storybook reading intervention on the initiation of joint attention in young children with autism. Kate graduated with her Ph.D. in August 2013 and joined the faculty of Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
