Kristi Cheyney

Kristi Cheyney began her doctoral program in Fall 2011.  Her classroom experience includes teaching music, preschool, and kindergarten. In 2004, Kristi began working with adults as a Facilitator/Mentor for an early literacy research project through the University of Texas at Houston and the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade and Monroe. After moving to Gainesville in 2005, Kristi spent two years leading a early childhood professional development project funded through the US Department of Health and Human Services. After that project ended, she took a faculty position at Florida Gateway College, with responsibilities for coordinating and teaching in an alternative teacher certification program. Kristi’s primary research interest lies in the intersection between language development and social emotional learning for young children.  Her dissertation research is focused on effective literacy practices in subsidized childcare settings.
