Vivian Gonsalves

Vivian Gonsalves began her doctoral program in Fall 2011.  She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2002 and Master’s in Special Education in 2003, both from the University of Florida. Additionally, she completed a Specialist’s Degree with an emphasis in early literacy for students with disabilities in 2006. Vivian was a Special Education teacher for a Title 1 school in Alachua County, Florida, for six years. She taught kindergarten and first grade and served as an inclusion specialist.  She has also served as a facilitator and mentor for developing teachers with the UF Lastinger Center for Learning.

Vivian’s interests include early literacy development, teacher education, mentoring and reading remediation.  She is currently an instructor of special education and early literacy development courses in the Proteach program, which prepares pre-service teachers. Additionally, she is a University of Florida Literacy Initiative (UFLI) trainer for the same program.  Her dissertation research focuses on professional development related to early reading intervention for practicing teachers.
