Research and Evaluation Methodology

Students pursuing REM degrees develop skills in data analysis, statistics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, psychometrics, computational psychometrics, program evaluation, educational research design and evaluation assessment through the courses offered by REM program faculty, by participating in research projects with faculty, and by conducting their own research projects.

Graduates of the REM program find work in a variety of fields as researchers, program evaluators, psychometricians, data scientists, and data analysts in testing companies, research and evaluation companies, universities, school districts, state and federal agencies.

The REM program at UF has a four-year Ph.D., two-year master’s degrees (M.A.E. and M.Ed.), and  a bachelor’s in education sciences (B.A.E.S.) specialization. A Research Evaluations and Methodology minor is also available to students of other departments.

    • The on-campus Ph.D., on-campus master’s degree, and minor may have quantitative or qualitative methods specialization.

    Program Offerings

    The Research and Evaluation Methodology (REM) program offers masters (M.Ed. and M.A.E.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees to students interested in statistics, psychometrics, education measurement and assessment, evaluation, and educational research.

    Doctorate Program

    This program is ideal for students who have completed a master’s degree and want to pursue further training and research in educational statistics, psychometrics, evaluation, and educational research methods.

    Research Evaluation Methods

    Undergraduate Minor

    The minor in REM with a quantitative focus adds a strong foundation in research methods, educational statistics, and psychometrics. The minor in REM with a qualitative focus adds a strong foundation in epistemologies, research approaches, and data collection and analysis methods suitable for qualitative inquiry.
