REM Minor with Focus on Quantitative Methods
The minor in REM with a quantitative focus adds a strong foundation in research methods, educational statistics and psychometrics.
For doctoral students, the minor in REM with a quantitative focus requires at least five courses selected from the list of advanced REM courses with the advice of the REM faculty mentor. For master’s students, the minor in REM with a quantitative focus requires 9 credit hours of advanced REM courses. The foundational courses EDF6400, EDF6402 and EDF6403 do not count towards the minor. The REM representative on the doctoral or thesis committee may require additional courses. Students should also consult the Quantitative Training Pathways. Special topics and new REM courses may be included in the minor if approved by the student’s REM minor advisor.
REM Minor with Focus on Qualitative Methods
The minor in REM with a qualitative focus adds a strong foundation in epistemologies, research approaches, and data collection and analysis methods suitable for qualitative inquiry.
For doctoral students, the minor in REM with a qualitative focus requires students to take EDF 7479 and EDF 7483 and two additional courses related to qualitative research traditions and practices. EDF 6475 does not count toward the minor credits. For masters students, the minor in REM with a qualitative focus requires students to take 9 credit hours of coursework related to qualitative research traditions and practices, not including EDF 6475. The specific courses must be approved by the REM faculty member on the doctoral committee.
