Program Overview

An online master of arts program that provides effective theory-based practices for delivering evaluation support in education social work, public health and medicine, non-profit organizations and business. 

The two-year online master’s program prepares professionals to meet the high demand for well-trained specialists in program evaluation, particularly in educational settings. Program evaluation is a rapidly growing field, both nationally and internationally. Jobs are available in public and private sectors, including federal and state agencies, school districts, community-based institutions, hospitals, and research consulting firms.

Program Evaluation in Educational Environments provides opportunities to learn and apply evaluation theory and tools; make professional connections, and work collaboratively in developing and assessing the impact of social science programs.

Program Requirements

Semester 1

  • EDF 7491 Evaluation of Educational Products and Systems (3 credits)
    Prerequisite: EDF 6403 or equivalent.
  • Quantitative Research Methodology (Choose one):
    • EDF 7486 Methods of Educational Research (3 credits)
      Prerequisite: STA 2023 (usually waived). Primarily for Ed.D. cohort-based programs.
    • EDF 6400 Quantitative Foundations of Education Research Overview (3 credits)
      Prerequisite: STA 2023, STA 2122, or equivalent (usually waived).
  • EDF 6973 Project In Lieu of Thesis (3 credits, Part 1)
    Prerequisite: Permission of the department.

Semester 2

  • Inferential Statistics (Choose one):
    • EDF 6401 Educational Statistics (3 credits)
      Application to educational data and problems.
    • EDF 6402 Quantitative Foundations in Educational Research: Inferential Statistics (3 credits)
      Prerequisite: EDF 6400.
  • Evaluation Methods and Applications (Choose one):
    • EDF 6464 Designing and Conducting Qualitative Research (3 credits)
      Basic concepts and theories in qualitative research.
    • EDG 6285 Evaluation in the School Program (3 credits)
      Procedures and techniques of evaluation in school programs.
  • EDF 6973 Project in Lieu of Thesis (3 credits, Part 2)
    Prerequisite: Permission of the department.

Summer Semester

  • EDF 6416 Quantitative Methods for Evaluation in Educational Environments (3 credits)
    Advanced quantitative methods with an emphasis on educational data.
  • EDF 7931 Seminar in Educational Research (3 credits)
    In-depth methodological approaches; emphasis on survey methodology.

Additional Required Courses (to be scheduled based on availability):

  • EDF 6463 Culturally Responsive Evaluation in Educational Environments (3 credits)
    Evaluation methods within cultural, social, economic, and political contexts.
  • EDF 6468 Evaluation Management for Grants in Educational Environments (3 credits)
    Prerequisite: EDF 6401 (Waived). Planning and management of grant-funded evaluations.
  • EDF 6492 Evaluation Communication and Ethics in Educational Environment (3 credits)
    Prerequisite: EDF 6401 (Waived). Communication strategies and ethics in evaluation.
  • Elective or EDF 6905 Independent Study (3 credits)

    Program Requirements

    • bachelor’s, master’s, or terminal degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a degree deemed equivalent by the University Of Florida Office Of Admission.
    • minimum grade point average of 3.0 upper-division (last 60 credits) undergraduate work.
    • An acceptable graduate grade point average for previous graduate work.
