Program Overview<\/b><\/h2>\n

The on-campus M.A.E. is a focused, 30-credit degree designed for students who want to gain a deeper understanding of data collection, analysis and research processes. Upon entering the program, students are placed into a research group. Advising closely resembles the Ph.D. experience<\/a>, with professors supporting students in developing and pitching their own research ideas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students engage in rigorous coursework spanning educational research methodology, educational statistics and program evaluation. REM students meet with their advisors to develop an individualized program of study that includes required classes and electives. Because most intermediate and advanced classes require the completion of a research proposal, students gain highly practical experience from day one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the supervision of faculty, M.A.E. students conduct methodological research, collaborate on preparing research papers for publication, and present their findings at major state, regional, and national conferences. These include the annual meetings of the American Educational Research Association, the Florida Educational Research Association, the National Council on Measurement in Education and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because the program requires a culminating master’s thesis and heavily emphasizes active research, the UF master\u2019s in educational research and evaluation is especially well-suited for students who plan to continue on to a Ph.D. in REM or another field.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
