Social Studies Certification

Social Studies Education, a nationally accredited, state-approved program, provides an enriching preparation experience that includes a supervised internship. This is a two-semester, 18-credit program.  The program prepares students to teach Social Studies courses such as U.S. and world history, civics, economics, human geography, government, and world cultures. Students will also be prepared to teach courses with high stakes testing (e.g. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, and End-Of-Course Assessments) in grades 6-12.

Students learn to apply theories about best practices in social studies teaching to their classrooms. The challenging nature of the coursework prepares students to become effective educators. Graduates of the program are highly sought after in the job market because of the reputation of the UF College of Education in Florida.
