This program equips you with the knowledge to understand the impact of disabilities across all aspects of life. Program Overview<\/span><\/h2>\n

The disabilities in society minor at UF provides a deep understanding of how varying abilities shape the human experience. Beyond the classroom, this minor explores the impact of disabilities in homes, workplaces and communities. You will focus on types of disabilities, how disability is perceived in society, the legal aspects of disability policy and how people with disabilities are included in all facets of community life.<\/p>\n

This 15-credit minor requires five engaging courses. With a fully online, asynchronous format and courses offered every semester, you can complete the entire minor in a single semester or spread it out to fit your academic plan.<\/p>\n

A pre-med student might focus on pediatric care for children with disabilities while an engineering student could focus on designing more accessible prosthetic devices. This minor provides a unique perspective that enriches every discipline.<\/p>\n

Students consistently report that this minor changes their worldview. The curriculum uses engaging, relevant materials and presents multiple points of view to encourage critical thinking. You will learn alongside peers from across campus and connect with students who utilize UF\u2019s Disability Resource Center (DRC), gaining a deep and practical understanding of lived experiences.<\/p>\n

Develop Leadership Skills<\/h3>\n

High-achieving students have the opportunity to serve as Teaching Assistants (TAs) for core courses (EEX 2000 or EEX 3093). As a TA, you will enroll in a leadership course and be mentored by faculty and graduate students, providing a unique opportunity to develop your teaching and leadership skills.<\/p>\n
