Admissions for the Online M.Ed.

The next online cohort will begin in August 2018. Applications are available in January.

To start your UF graduate application, please visit the admissions page and review the admissions checklist. For directions on how to apply for the SPHE graduate program, refer to the information below.

Admission to graduate programs in the College of Education is based on a comprehensive review of all application materials. Programs give strong consideration to:

  • The statement of purpose
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Relevant work and/or life experiences
  • Performance in prior undergraduate coursework (GPA)
  • The Verbal and Quantitative scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited United States college or university, or a degree deemed equivalent by the University of Florida Office of Admission.
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0 upper-division (last 60 credits) undergraduate work.
  • Acceptable GRE Scores. (In the online program, the average GRE scores for accepted and newly enrolling students were: Verbal 151 and Quantitative 144.  The low and high ranges were: Verbal 141-166, Quantitative 136-156.)  This particular program does not require you to submit a score for the Analytical Writing section.

Exceptions to the above requirements are made only when these and other criteria are reviewed by the academic unit, recommended by the college, and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School.

Please make sure to have all your admission material including official transcripts, official GRE scores, letters of recommendation, resume, writing sample, and department program application into the School of Human Development & Organizational Studies in Education, Student Personnel in Higher Education program by the posted deadlines.

1. University of Florida Graduate School Application:

  • New Applicants: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/start.html
  • Readmission (former UF Graduate students): http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/forms.html
    • NOTE: If you previously earned a graduate degree from the University of Florida or have been admitted to the UF Graduate School, you should complete the application for readmission. The Readmission application should ONLY to be used by applicants who were previously enrolled in a Graduate program at UF.  Please submit your program application, statement of purpose, resume, scholarly paper, letters of recommendations, copies of transcripts (other than UF) to the School of Human Development & Organizational Studies in Education, Attention: angela@coe.ufl.edu.  Former UF Graduate Students should not need to resubmit transcripts or GRE scores to the UF, Office of Admissions.
  • A $30.00 Application Fee (non-refundable) is required for new applicants and former applicants: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/grad/gradcheclkist.html
  • Submit official Graduate Records Examination (GRE) score to University of Florida (code 5812). The University of Florida Office of Admissions will only accept scores sent directly from ETS: http://www.ets.org
  • Submit official transcripts to the University of Florida, Office of Admissions, PO Box 114000, Gainesville, FL 32611-4000.

2. Program Application and Supporting Application Material:

Please upload the following SPHE departmental program application materials on your UF online application:

  1. SPHE online program application (Word document).
  2. Current Resume/CV.
  3. Statement of Purpose is REQUIRED (500 – 750 words): Specify your career goals and how your study at the University of Florida relates to those goals. Include evidence of your interest in, commitment to, and/or potential for leadership in the field of higher education.
  4. Writing sample REQUIRED (3-page limit, double-spaced) that answers the following question:
    • What role should Student Affairs professionals have in the student experience?
      • (An “upload other” button under the Upload Resume section of the UF on-line application will allow you to upload this writing sample.)
  5. REQUIRED 2 Letters of Recommendation.
    • Can be in letter format or via Letter of Recommendation (pdf).
    • Be sure to add 2 REQUIRED contacts under the Recommendations tab. These are mandatory for this program.
