Call for Proposals for 2016 College of Education Research Symposium “Fostering Dialogue”
March 31, 2016, Norman Hall UF

All undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and practitioners in the field of education are invited to submit a proposal to the first annual University of Florida College of Education Research Symposium sponsored by the Education College Council (ECC) and Student Alliance of Graduates in Education (SAGE). Our theme, Fostering Dialogue, is meant to facilitate cross-disciplinary communication and, to that end, we hope the first COE Research Symposium draws interest across the college. As a result, we understand the term “research” broadly and welcome submissions of original social science research, historical inquiry, practitioner inquiry, and other research projects that further our knowledge and understanding of education in a variety of settings, both formal and informal. Faculty members who have worked with undergraduate and graduate students and intern/mentor teacher pairs who have engaged in practitioner inquiry are especially encouraged to submit abstracts. 250-word abstracts may be submitted for presentation as roundtable discussions or poster presentations.

Calling All UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHERS!
The 2016 UF Best UR Paper Contest is coming! Any UF undergraduate researcher can compete. If you want to enter, you must submit your paper to The UF Journal of Undergraduate Research, http://ufdc.ufl.edu/jur no later than February 19th and indicate that you want it to be considered for the contest. If you want to reserve the paper for a later submission to a peer reviewed journal, also indicate that you do not want it considered for publication in JUR. Are you an undergraduate student interested in doing funded educational research? Apply for the University Scholars Program!

The College of Education has the opportunity to award 3 selected undergraduate students, who will be designated as University Scholars, the opportunity to work one-on-one with a chosen faculty member on a research/creative project of mutual interest. Students participating in this program will receive a $1,750 stipend to support research efforts under the faculty mentor.  This funded research will be conducted during the student’s junior or senior year.

In order to be eligible, students must have earned a 3.3 upper division GPA or a 3.0 GPA for a minimum of 75 credit hours of completed coursework.  Additionally students must not graduate with their undergraduate degree before Spring 2017. If selected, students must attend a mandatory orientation session at the UF Undergraduate Research Symposium on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

Pasco County Job Fair 
Pasco County Schools is hosting a Spring Instructional Job Fair on Thursday, February 25th. This event is open to graduates, interns, and upcoming graduates of all majors who are interested in teaching. Student Employment Opportunity 
We are looking for advanced graduate students to administer standardized assessments to preschool children with disabilities for an IES randomized-controlled trial on embedded instruction. This is a short-term, hourly position that involves training, administration, and scoring of the standardized assessments and travel to and from schools in Clay County and St. Johns County. Experience working with young children with disabilities and administering standardized assessments is strongly preferred. Child examiners must attend a training in March and must be available a minimum of 2 days per week (~10-20 hours/week) between April 4 and May 13. Child examiners will be paid $15/hour plus mileage.  This is a great opportunity for students interested in research and gaining more assessment experience with young children with disabilities. Camp Counselor Positions 
Florida Elks Youth Camp is looking for summer camp counselors. As it stands, our program offers a great opportunity for our counselors to gain experience in behavior management, planning/organization, and teamwork. Counselors work for 8 weeks (June 12 – August 6). We pay $300/week, and we provide all room and board at no cost to our staff. Our campers are 9-13 years old, and they stay with us for week-long sessions.  Each counselor is paired with a second staff member and given a cabin of 7 campers. Each cabin is then grouped with 5 other cabins for activities—so there is a great mix of both small and large group organization. See flyer for additional details.

Part-Time Work for Special Needs Child
My 11 year daughter has spina bifida and my wife and I are looking for one or two students that are interested in working some part-time hours this semester (mostly afternoon) to assist with picking up from school, getting her to Dr. appointments. Tutoring/Babysitting/Nannying

NANNY/BABYSITTER NEEDED

Take Stock in Children Mentors
The Education Foundation’s Take Stock in Children program is currently looking for about 30 volunteer mentors in the community for our Alachua County public school students in grades 7-12.

Take Stock in Children is a mentoring and scholarship program that pairs low income, deserving students with a  volunteer mentor who meets with them once per week during their lunch time, at their school. Our students are awarded a 2-year scholarship upon graduation and successful completion of our program.

Musician and Student Volunteer Opportunities
Mt. Zion AME Church is looking for 2-3 student volunteers to assist with building our youth department, ages 10-18. The commitment is 20-25 hours monthly, Sundays (10a-1p,) Thursdays (evening, 2 hours, 5p-7p) and one Tuesday a month (evening, 1 ½  hours, 6:30p-8p). They are also looking for a musician.
