ECC Inaugural Volunteer Roundup – Thursday, January 18 from 5:00-7:00pm
We know you’ve been looking far and wide for the perfect volunteer opportunity. Look no further than the Inaugural Volunteer Roundup Thursday, January 18 at the College of Education Norman Hall Courtyard.

Hosted by the Education College Council and UF Student Government, this event is designed to create connections between community organizations who frequently request assistance in recruiting College of Education students for volunteer opportunities with the students who are seeking volunteer opportunities through organizations that align with their interest. Participating organizations need volunteers with an interest or experience in working with children as mentors, tutors, coaches, or in theater and the arts.

Camp Tanuga in Northern Michigan

Winning Reading Boost Volunteer Team
Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life?

Then join the Winning Reading Boost Volunteer Team!  For just an hour a week, you can volunteer at Metcalfe or Idylwilde Elementary School beginning January. Through the span of 90 days, volunteers will embark on a journey with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students as they guide struggling readers through an engaging, 36-step learning experience that guarantees reading fluency.

Special Needs Resource Expo – Saturday, January 27, 2018, 12-3pm
The event is on Saturday, January 27th 12-3pm at Celebration UMC on Archer Road (9501 SW Archer Rd, 32608)

Volunteers needed for the following:

Friday, January 26th (6-9pm) – Help with room setup (physical work)
Saturday, January 27th (9am-12pm) – Last minute setup and helping vendors locate/setup their tables
Saturday, January 27th (12-3pm) – During the event (usher & breaks) – usher people to the area they are looking for and give the lone vendors breaks (watch the items at their table and let people know the vendor will be back soon)
Saturday, January 27th (3pm – ?) – Break down and clean up (physical work)

During this event, volunteers will get to meet all kinds of resources in our area that work with educating children. The Alachua County Council of PTAs, Pre K ESE department of education, Pace Center for Girls, and so many more will be attending. Join SHIP! Apply by 5pm, Friday January 12
The School Health Interdisciplinary Program (SHIP) is looking for volunteers for the Spring 2018 semester. SHIP is an afterschool program that engages graduate and undergraduate volunteers in teaching 3rd-5th grade Alachua County students about various health topics such as nutrition, physical activity, stress management, importance of sleep, dental health, hand washing, injury prevention and safety topics, etc.

SHIP crew members (i.e., volunteers) are expected to volunteer at least once a week (for one hour-long lesson; between the hours of 2:45pm-4:45pm), every week, throughout the Spring 2018 term.

How to Apply!
The SHIP volunteer application is now available online! Please click here to complete the SHIP volunteer application. The application will close at 5pm on Friday, January 12th. If you are interested, please submit your application ASAP!

Special Notes!
Ø The first round of accepted volunteers will be notified by Sunday, January 14th. A response (confirming or denying your acceptance into SHIP) will be required within 36 hours (Monday, January 15th by 6pm).
Ø SHIP crew members will begin volunteering at the sites the week of January 22nd.
Ø A mandatory SHIP volunteer training will be held on Wednesday, January 17th, from 3:00pm-4:30pm, as well as Thursday, January 18, from 3:00pm-4:30pm.
Ø Volunteers are required to attend only ONE of the SHIP volunteer training sessions.

This would entail picking up from their school bus stop at Westside Park at 3:25 on most days to our home near campus, plus driving to or picking up from after-school activities in town.
