FREE GRE Workshop 
The UF Teaching Center offers this workshop Monday through Thursday, July 23-26, from 5-7 p.m. each day.   The Verbal sessions are Monday  & Wednesday, and the Math sessions are Tuesday and Thursday.  You can register for just the math sessions, just the verbal sessions, or all four.  Go towww.teachingcenter.ufl.edu, then “study skills” then “workshops” to register and learn the workshop location

FLMNH School Programs Education Assistant Fall 2018  – Deadline to apply Friday, July 20, 2018
The Florida Museum of Natural History is hiring part time Education Assistants to assist with program development, implementation, and evaluation of a fourth grade science program focusing on the featured exhibit, Permian Monsters: Life Before the Dinosaurs.

Summary of Duties

  • Develop activities related to the Permian Monsters: Life Before the Dinosaurs exhibit
  • Implement pre-visit lesson plans to fourth grade students in selected low performing Alachua County public elementary schools
  • Assist with teacher training at the Museum for fourth grade teachers
  • Guide fourth grade students on a Florida Museum field trip
  • Administer an evaluation of the program
  • Serve as a role model for the elementary school students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching or other work experience with children
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Supervision and Evaluation: School Programs Education Assistants work under the supervision and guidance of the Florida Museum of Natural History School Program staff. The School Programs Coordinator will oversee timesheets, task assignments, and scheduling of interns and will evaluate materials and performance. Evaluation will be ongoing, consisting of one on one mentoring sessions with feedback on assignments from School Programs staff.

Work Schedule: $14/hour x 10 hours/week x 16 weeks

The position will run Aug 20, 2018 – Dec 7, 2018. Education Assistants will work 10 hours per week at the Museum except when delivering programs at the schools.

Part-time GRRATE Project Specialist

Peaceful Paths — Internship Opportunities 
Peaceful Paths is the only certified domestic violence center responsible for serving Alachua, Bradford and Union Counties. Our agency is committed to providing services to survivors of domestic violence. Prospective interns who are selected will be working within our Child and Youth Department which provides services to our Outreach Office and Emergency Shelter, as well as to the community through our Violence Prevention program. Interns will have the opportunity to work first-hand with survivors and their children, providing support, learning to advocate and keep them emotionally and physically safe. Violence Prevention interns will gain first-hand experience in building prevention strategies by planning and facilitating elementary to high school curriculum focused on healthy friendships, relationships, and intimate partner violence prevention. Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies
Position available for an advanced undergraduate or graduate student to assist with activities for a project providing professional development for early intervention providers serving infants and toddlers with or at risk for disabilities. The professional development is focused on providers coaching families to implement practices to support the social-emotional development of their infants and toddlers.  This student would assist the Project Coordinator with preparing materials for professional development workshops and meetings, data entry, and data processing. The position is an hourly position that is available immediately with the opportunity to continue the work through next year. Availability for 20 hours per week is preferred. Students will be paid $12-$15/hour, depending on experience. The position includes a brief orientation and training and ongoing supervision by a project coordinator. Teaching Opportunity for Students & Teachers — Teach English to Children in China
The job is working online in the mornings or early evenings to teach English to Children in China. The pay is $16-$20 an hour and there are travel opportunities too! The company offers employees to go to China for summer camps along with other opportunities to meet the students that we teach.

This job has given me, as an education major, many opportunities to work with diverse populations, teach children, and make money. Hopefully it can do the same for others who have an interest in international studies, teaching, or the Chinese culture.

Volunteer Opportunities

Alachua County School District 21st Century After School Programs
The Alachua County School District 21st Century After School Programs is looking for volunteers for this upcoming school year.  Volunteers are needed for academic assistance and mentoring support during after school hours, Mondays-Thursdays for grades Kindergarten – 8th grades.  Volunteer schedules can be flexible.  The schools are Duval Early Learning Academy, Foster Elementary, Lincoln Middle, Rawlings Elementary, Shell Elementary, Terwilliger Elementary, and Westwood Middle.  We are an academic based program, but also work on STEAM projects.  Our current project is Architecture/Environmental Architecture (Critter Cottages with Hands On Gainesville).  Volunteers can assist with student check in (directly after school students report to our program), homework help, recreation and youth sports, supper-time, technology time, and with academic classes in particular hands-on STEM architecture.

Babysitter Needed
Our one and a half year-old son is the light of our life. He is a wonderful person to be around and we need a little assistance with him due to our active lifestyles. Both parents are business owners and have demanding schedules. We want to spend as much QUALITY TIME with our baby and need some help. We are looking for 1-2 people who are experienced to aid in continuing his positive growth and development and would also like to share the working schedule (because we know how busy your academic schedules can be). Interlachen High School – Tutors Needed
Interlachen High School is in need of tutors! Our district will be implementing the amazing AVID curriculum and a large piece of this is that students are able to meet in small groups on Tuesdays and Thursday to get that extra help with difficult material. Tutors will go through a background check, training process, and must be able to commit to 2 days every week for 2-3 hours each day. Compensation is available at a rate of 15.00/hour. Call to Action: America Reads Tutors Needed!
America Reads is one of the preeminent federal community service programs in the country. Its mission? To mobilize an army of trained reading tutors to help children become successful, independent readers. Our tutors play a critical role in elementary schools and community centers throughout Gainesville. They partner with teachers to support reading instruction. They work one-on-one with children who are struggling to learn. They run small-group tutoring sessions. They inspire a love of books and reading in their students.


 Micanopy Tutoring – with Friends of the Library
Tutors needed for 1-on-1 tutoring with at-risk elementary through high school students one to four afternoons per week. Micanopy Library is located 15 to 20 minutes south of campus. Volunteers are also welcome. This is an Alachua County/United Way funded program.

Hours (one or more of the following days): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday  Thursday, anytime between 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – These are summer hours. To apply, interested applicants should email mceetutoring@gmail.com.
