Course Announcement: VEC2100 World Herbs & Vegetables (Online)

Students will learn about the history, botanic properties, genetics, use and cultivation for a variety of culinary herbs and vegetables from around the world. A general education course in the Biological Sciences, learn about vegetables, herbs and spices from around the world, history, botanic properties, genetics, use and cultivation of a variety of culinary herbs and vegetables, student engagement and learning are enhanced through hands-on activities, Q & A sessions, discussions and projects. Course Announcement: EDA6931 Seminar in Educational Policy Analysis
Education policy is a burgeoning field of research that has undergone a significant transformation in the past two decades. This course is designed to deepen your understanding of the ways in which educational policies can be used to improve teaching and learning within schools. In the first part of the course, we will examine policies designed to improve teacher effectiveness, including teacher preparation, professional development, collaboration, evaluation, and performance incentives. In the second part of the course, we will examine policies oriented towards school performance, including test-based accountability, market/choice-based policies, charter schools, and school turnaround. In the final part of the course, we will consider the role that social policies, including health and housing policies, play in improving students’ educational outcomes. Information Session for the UF Educational Leadership PhD Program
Students interested in careers in educational research and leadership are invited to the College of Education’s Educational Leadership PhD Information Session on December 5th from 5-6PM in Norman Hall Room 2-240.The Educational Leadership PhD prepares students for careers in academic settings, school district research departments, state departments of education, and a variety of educational leadership roles. Faculty bring expertise in a number of high-demand areas including education law and finance, education policy, and research methodology. Join us for an informal information session to learn more about the program, meet faculty and current students, and receive an overview of the admissions process. MLK Day of Service 2020 | Registration Open
The event will take place on January 20th from 8:30am-2:00pm, meeting in the Rion Ballroom in the Reitz Union. Students will be able to reflect on the importance of service and its’ connection with diversity and inclusion while giving back to the Gainesville community at the same time at 7 different service sites in the area. Participants in MLK Day of Service will help gain experience in: building awareness to diverse social issues and communities, taking initiative to act on local issues in the Gainesville/North Central Florida area, and learning how diversity and inclusion align themselves in the realm of service learning. Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year COE scholarships are now being accepted. Over $350,000 will be awarded through 150 available scholarships. All applications must include:

- A 500-750 word essay

Florida Elks Youth Camp Counselors
Description: We’re an 8-week non-profit residential camp in Umatilla, Florida. We do a week of staff training, and 7 one-week sessions of camp. We see about 336 campers every week between the ages of 9-13. Counselors are responsible for their cabin of 7 campers, and partially responsible for the development of their CIT. They receive $300 a week for this. Almost all of our campers come from the state of Florida, which makes us different than many camps out there. This season we run June 7th to August 1st. Any staff who works for us become eligible to apply for the Van Duren Scholarship. This scholarship is up to $5,000 a year for 4-years; even applies towards graduate degrees. Every year is a new year, so a student has the opportunity to get more money every year based on their academic and personal performance.

Nanny (Four Children)
Description: We are searching for a mature, organized, and responsible nanny for our 4 children, ages 10, 9, 7, and 5. Applicants should be interested in supervising homework, chores, and play time (sports/swimming). Our youngest child has Down Syndrome and will need transportation to therapy twice a week and her older brothers also need transport to after school activities. We provide a van for transportation. Assistance with meal preparation, laundry, and dishes is greatly appreciated. The start date is as soon as possible but we have some flexibility. We will be interviewing interested applicants immediately.
When: Typical hours are Monday to Friday 11:30 to 6:30 and occasional mornings (6:30-8:45), and vary depending on my work schedule, about 25 hours per week (can be more if desired).

Description: I am in need of a tutor(s) to help teach tools and tips for a 10 year old 4th-grader who is struggling with both reading comprehension and math. We are in the process of having her tested for dyslexia and/or dyscalculia. She is very eager to learn, has a sweet personality but is struggling with math (due to reading comprehension and other learning/cognitive issues) and is having difficulty with reading comprehension.
