Humanities Writing Retreat
Save the date! The Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere offers a five-day writing retreat in the peaceful Austin Cary Forest Learning Center. The writing retreat is open to all UF scholars with writing projects in the humanities (excluding syllabus development), including graduate students in good standing. Course Announcement: AFA4931/SYA4930 The History of Education in the South
This course chronicles the creation, development, and function of schooling and education in the South, with a focus on the experiences of black students, teachers, and communities. Learners will explore the most patterned dilemmas within Southern schools, with particular emphasis on white supremacy, racism, segregation, Jim Crow-era systems, and racial justice social movements from 1850 to 1980. Spring 2020, Tuesday from 3:00 PM -4:55 PM, and Thursdays from 4:05 PM – 4:55 PM with Dr. Rebekah Cordova and guests lecturer Val Brown.
Course Announcement: EGN1935 Fundamentals of Digital Literacy
An overview of Digital Literacy and Digital Culture. The course will take an introductory approach to different technologies from a functionality perspective utilizing the concepts/skills widely accepted for digital competency. Course topics include: understanding programming, finding and curating information, digital culture and social understanding, understanding artificial intelligence, hacking (build your own smart speaker) and e-safety and digital creativity. Course Announcement: VEC2100 World Herbs & Vegetables (Online)

Students will learn about the history, botanic properties, genetics, use and cultivation for a variety of culinary herbs and vegetables from around the world. A general education course in the Biological Sciences, learn about vegetables, herbs and spices from around the world, history, botanic properties, genetics, use and cultivation of a variety of culinary herbs and vegetables, student engagement and learning are enhanced through hands-on activities, Q & A sessions, discussions and projects. COE Scholarship Announcement
Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year COE scholarships are now being accepted. Over $350,000 will be awarded through 150 available scholarships. All applications must include:
- A completed scholarship application
- An updated Resume/CV
- A 500-750 word essay
- Two recommendation forms

Peaceful Path’s Child & Youth Program Internship
Who We Are: Peaceful Paths is the only certified domestic violence center responsible for serving Alachua, Bradford and Union Counties. Our agency is committed to providing services to survivors of domestic violence. Our agency offers services such as legal advocacy, counseling, support groups, emergency food, clothing and hygiene supplies, emergency shelter and transitional housing.
Description: Prospective interns who are selected will be working within our Child and Youth Program which provides services to our Emergency Shelter. This internship gives firsthand experience in providing children’s advocacy in addition to planning, facilitating children’s support groups and providing childcare support There will also be opportunities to intern/volunteer in other areas of the agency. Interns will have the opportunity to work first hand with survivors and their children, providing support, learning to advocate and keep them emotionally and physically safe.
The Commitment: Those who are interested in applying for this internship should enjoy working with children from a variety of ages and backgrounds, and exhibit patience, understanding, empathy, and a commitment to the youth we serve. Our shelter location is located in an area of town that does not have an evening bus route, so applicants should have their own reliable mode of transportation. Interns should expect to work 6-8 hours a week with our Child and Youth program staff, with more hours available for those seeking credit. Interns are expected to be available 2 evenings per week (Monday through Thursday) from 5:30-8:30 and one Saturday morning per month. One 3-4 hour block per week (Monday through Friday) during normal business hours for clerical work and program development is also required. Interns will have the opportunity to meet as a group weekly, and individually with their supervisor weekly for furthering education. Selected interns will also be required to complete our new advocate training which totals 24 hours. Attending this training IS NOT OPTIONAL. Those who do not complete the training will not be retained as an intern. Dates of the training will be available at the time of interview.

Florida Elks Youth Camp Counselors
Description: We’re an 8-week non-profit residential camp in Umatilla, Florida. We do a week of staff training, and 7 one-week sessions of camp. We see about 336 campers every week between the ages of 9-13. Counselors are responsible for their cabin of 7 campers, and partially responsible for the development of their CIT. They receive $300 a week for this. Almost all of our campers come from the state of Florida, which makes us different than many camps out there. This season we run June 7th to August 1st. Any staff who works for us become eligible to apply for the Van Duren Scholarship. This scholarship is up to $5,000 a year for 4-years; even applies towards graduate degrees. Every year is a new year, so a student has the opportunity to get more money every year based on their academic and personal performance.

Nanny (Four Children)
Description: We are searching for a mature, organized, and responsible nanny for our 4 children, ages 10, 9, 7, and 5. Applicants should be interested in supervising homework, chores, and play time (sports/swimming). Our youngest child has Down Syndrome and will need transportation to therapy twice a week and her older brothers also need transport to after school activities. We provide a van for transportation. Assistance with meal preparation, laundry, and dishes is greatly appreciated. The start date is as soon as possible but we have some flexibility. We will be interviewing interested applicants immediately.
When: Typical hours are Monday to Friday 11:30 to 6:30 and occasional mornings (6:30-8:45), and vary depending on my work schedule, about 25 hours per week (can be more if desired).
