2025-2026 SAGE (Student Alliance of Graduates in Education) Executive Officer Opening

Greetings Fellow COE Graduate Students,

I hope you’re doing well, and that you are wrapping up with the spring semester well. I am Song, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Curriculum and Instruction program at UF College of Education. I have served as the president of the Student Alliance of Graduates in Education (SAGE) during the last academic year. SAGE is a student organization for graduate students across the UF College of Education.

SAGE comprises master’s and doctoral students across the many departments in the College of Education at the University of Florida. We have come together for many reasons, some of which include to:
• Create a cross-departmental graduate student group forum in the College of Education to communicate graduate student needs better;
• Work with institutional leaders and develop access to decision-making processes affecting graduate students within the College of Education and the University of Florida;
• Aid teaching assistants with the development of pedagogical skills through open workshops;
• Serve as an academic, professional, and social support group for Education graduate students.

In 2025, SAGE was registered as an official student organization at UF and received a New Student Organization of the Year Award from Student Engagement at UF.

I’m happy to announce that the application to become a 2025-2026 SAGE Executive Officer is now open. This is a one-year commitment from this Fall 2025 to Summer 2026. This is a great service opportunity for graduate students to be leaders in this space (and it will look great on your CV, too!).

SAGE currently has five cabinet positions, below are some of the expectations for each. Please keep in mind that these roles and expectations are flexible, you are a team at the end of the day and collaboration and understanding are the number one priority:

President
• Support Executive Board
• Act as liaison between SAGE (and students) and faculty or other UF entities
• Foster collaboration amongst the board and members for event planning

Vice President
• Support the president and Board as needed
• Help facilitate relations with COE and SAGE

Secretary/Treasurer
• Serve as coordinator for SAGE documents (schedule meetings and gather all necessary information)
• Email promotion of events- manage the SAGE listserv.
• Oversee SAGE finances, including maintaining the budget, processing reimbursements, and preparing funding requests and expenditure reports

Media Manager
• Keep online presence updated (e.g., Facebook & Instagram)
• Create/design marketing materials (flyers, logos, etc.)
• Support in handling SAGE listserv

Public Relations Manager
• Connect all 3 schools in COE
• Outreach events with local schools and nonprofit organizations
• Identify partnership opportunities that connect graduate students with community educational needs
• Recruit and organize volunteers, track participation, and share impact updates with the Board and members

If interested in applying for one of these cabinet options, please fill out a form. Or, if you are a graduate student wanting to get involved, click on “Become a SAGE Member” and share just your email with us to be added to the SAGE listserv.

Nominations for cabinet position will close on Friday, June 13th. Voting will commence on Monday, June 16th and the survey will be made available via this ongoing listserv.

  • Grief Ritual Day Retreat-June 21
A Daylong Grief Workshop: A Ritual Gathering of Movement, Song, Poetry, and Remembrance

“What if we knew the world was hungry for our sorrow, longing to drink the tears from our eyes as a holy offering?” – Francis Weller
Join us for a day of communal tending to the sacred terrain of grief at a beautiful farmstead in Alachua, Fl.
This workshop is an invitation to enter the rich and necessary ground of sorrow—not as something to fix or overcome, but as a deep well that connects us to our vitality, our humanity, and to one another.
In a culture that often urges us to move on, numb out, or go it alone, we gather instead in circle to honor grief as a gateway to wholeness. Through movementsingingpoetrywriting, and ritual, we will make space for what has been lost, what longs to be remembered, and what still aches to be named.
