Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access
An inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible (IDEA) community is a top priority at the University of Florida. In the College of Education, we value the importance of supporting all students through their journey to pursuing excellence and a more just society.
Promoting Positive Change Through Research and Practice
COE Students
The College of Education programs offer students multiple opportunities to engage in course content and field experiences, in which topics aligned to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility are emphasized as part of foundational knowledge of future teachers and other school personnel. Students are encouraged to engage in research projects and communities of practice related to major issues involving social justice in education. In addition, students share their research and practice through presentations in national and international conferences and through scholarly publications.
COE Faculty
Scholars in the College of Education conduct extensive research in the areas of policy and the historically underrepresented students, issues of equity and diversity, gender issues, ESOL/Bilingual education, multicultural education, special education, critical race theory, intersections of race and multiple contexts, mentoring, and multicultural counseling. Faculty research has been largely disseminated through scholarly journals across the US and internationally.
COE Initiatives and Programs
The College of Education provides access to resources for students at the college and university levels. Services include assistance with personal and professional development, outreach efforts with students in grades K-12, targeted recruitment and retention, and funding opportunities for minority students.
Holmes Scholars Program
Sponsored by the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), the Holmes Scholars Program offers opportunities to doctoral students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds who are pursuing careers in education.
Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, Inc.
Offered through the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, Inc., the Minority Teacher Education Scholars Program (MTES) is a performance-based scholarship for students who are African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, and Native American. Participants in the MTES program include Florida’s colleges and universities that offer state-approved teacher education programs.
International Education and Study Abroad
The mission of the Global College of Education is to facilitate international collaboration, communication, and education in a diverse 21st century learning environment.
EduGator Allyship
In Fall 2019, the Faculty Policy Council discussed the increasingly critical need for allyship and support for minoritized faculty of color – as well as for the staff and students – in the College of Education in the current political climate. This website includes an aggregated list of available resources for allyship and support for minoritized faculty, students and staff.
