Research

My research interests focus on two primary population:
Children and Adolescents who are considered at-risk
Counselors in Training

I also have an interest in international counseling.

Children and Adolescents At-Risk and Their Families
My research with children and adolescents focuses on prevention and intervention strategies for those identified as being at-risk, specifically focused on assessment and intervention and outcome based research, addressing the school to prison pipeline, and the use of creative interventions, such as adventure based counseling, nature, and play therapy.

Counselor Training and Development
Within counselor training and development, my research is focused specifically on counseling competencies and gatekeeping, including an emphasis on assessment and program evaluation. Additionally, my research in this area includes the development and integration of creative experiences to enhance the learning environment for counseling students. Creative experiences integrated within my research include play therapy focusing on sandtray, the use of nature, adventure based counseling, expressive arts, and games.

International Counseling
Recently, I have started developing international partnerships focused on furthering the development of counseling internationally. I conducted a three-day training on basic helping skills in Cap-Haitien, Haiti in the Summer 2016 for teachers and church leaders.
