Initially an accounting major, I quickly realized it wasn\u2019t for me; I wanted a career where I could connect with people and make a positive impact. Now, I\u2019m studying geography with a UFTeach minor, aiming to become a high school teacher and basketball coach. This summer, I gained invaluable experience through the Noyce Internship Program at UF and the Florida Museum of Natural History, where I taught science camps and developed an after-school program on the Megalodon exhibit. My Noyce summer internship was completed at the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College. This experience skyrocketed my knowledge about the night sky and gave me ample opportunity in teaching groups of all ages. Before this internship I never acknowledged informal learning environments as useful, but now I see how incredible they actually are and the impact they have on learning. Each field placement required me to prepare and deliver three interactive lessons, working closely with local teachers and different teaching partners, which helped me adapt quickly to new people and teaching environments. Starting with co-teaching and eventually teaching independently, I developed confidence and learned to communicate effectively and improvise when needed, all while balancing my coursework in microbiology. My fascination for teaching has only grown, and I\u2019ve come to value the rewards of guiding students to new understandings, addressing misconceptions, and sparking their interest in science.<br \/>\nI\u2019m glad to say that my fascination for teaching has grown. The rewards I attain originate from student comprehension. I learned how to format and ask probing questions in such a way as to lead the student to the realization and give me, the teacher, an idea of what the student already knew. I will be graduating this December with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Mathematics and a minor in UF Teach. My internship was at the Florida Museum of Natural History. During the course of my internship, I worked with the Center for Science Learning to create tour guides and lesson plans for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade educators that directly relate mathematics and science concepts through their travelling exhibit Megalodon. I am a second-year NOYCE intern and first-year NOYCE peer mentor. I interned at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, my hometown, for the last two summers. Last year, I worked alongside marine biologists to take care of animals in the wetlands gallery in the husbandry department. My main focus was herpetology, and I worked most closely with Burmese pythons, alligators, and crocodiles. I also gained tons of experience with a massive variety of other animals, including those such as spotted eagle rays and African penguins. This year, I joined the exhibit educator team. I worked at all of the touch tanks in the aquarium, including the Stingray Bay, Horseshoe Crab Lagoon, and No Bone Zone. Additionally, I spent much of my time tending to guests involved in the Dive with the Sharks and Swim with the Fish programs. My main goal was to portray information about the animals in the tanks in a tangible way for guests from all different backgrounds. We joined the UTeach network in 2009.
