The institute supports learning technology faculty and student researchers, state-of-the-art labs and teaching facilities, and academic, industry and government partners, who are all driven by a passion to transform education. In addition to creating and housing cutting-edge labs, the institute will demonstrate the university’s power in creating and disseminating advanced learning technologies that improve learning outcomes on an international scale.
OBJECTIVE
Introduce IALT as a collective working group using the documentary format. We wanted to show that IALT is creating real, positive change in real time. They are accomplishing this through collaborative efforts that will improve education, are heavily involved in the UF mission to improve education using AI integration and are conducting ground-breaking research that is mindful of ethical concerns.
The Challenge
This was a large-scale production with many shoots, unique animations, and sound/lighting uniformity challenges. Despite presenting the faculty with the same set of questions, we ended up with many unique perspectives about their individual work. Finding the unifying threads and creating a narrative from the interviews took considerable effort and story-editing collaboration. Staying within our scope and shooting schedule involved diligence, as we worked with high-level faculty with many obligations that sometimes took them away from Gainesville.
The Solution
We were able to achieve a consistent, dynamic and engaging style through deliberate motion graphics choices and sound design. Our team spent considerable time with the rough interviews to identify and group themes. During interviews, faculty naturally used questions to discuss their work, and we were able to use this rhetorical device in the introduction to frame the entire piece. Due to the digital nature of much of the faculty’s research, we decided to utilize animations and graphics to visualize and support their talking points.
