Meeting Notes – November 13, 2023
Meeting lasted 44 mins, from 1:16pm-1:59pm
- NN introduced the agenda.
- HS ran over a brief PPT to overview/summarize the current state of the budget and updates on new ways monies are being provided from the president and Provost.
- HS ran over a detailed breakdown of the 2023-24 budget and expected vs current budget.
- Reserves were part of this report and details of the lines of hold-back and reserves was detailed and discussed.
- DG reported they did not know what he fiscal policy would be for 2024-25, so hiring now, but being safe as the new model is largely unknown.
- Two business models being considered by the President and consultants.
- DG thanked HS as he is seen as a top 2 budget manager in the University – NN echoed this.
- The Committee then let Dean Good and HS leave to discuss their 2023-24 goals.
- These were agreed, based on NN draft, and NN agreed to forward to Ashley (Chair of FCP).

Budgetary Affairs Committee Goals: 2023-24 (DRAFT)
Constitutional Charge: The BAC is an advisory group that solicits faculty input and feedback related to budgetary directions proposed by the Dean. The role of the Budgetary Affairs Committee is to review, advise, and make recommendations to the Dean of the COE related to the budget.
Goal 1:
Review, advise, and make recommendations to the Dean of the COE related to the budget.
Goal 2:
BAC Committee members should become familiar with the proposed budget model (including core features and implementation considerations) that is being developed by CFO Chris Cowen and Huron consultants and advise the Dean regarding potential implications for the college
Goal 3:
BAC Committee members should become familiar with policy/guidance documents previously developed by the committee (e.g., budget reduction principles).
Goal 4:
Solicit input and feedback from COE faculty related to budgetary decisions proposed by the Dean.
