Tech & Distance Ed Committee Meeting – November 2, 2023

Present

Helena, Kristi, Bojan, Walter, Tom Dana, Katy, Magdi, Domenic Durante, Jason Arnold

1. General Housekeeping

Review future meeting dates, adjustments; Magdi to attend FPC meeting virtually Nov. 20th

2. Domenic Durante Presentation – Move to Online Education; Blue Ribbon Process

  • All undergrad courses must be online compliant by 2025
  • Focusing on getting some online initially (UF QM) with e-learning appropriate pedagogy (“Hollywood”) vs. Blue Ribbon courses. There is immense pressure to get the undergrad courses ready (there will be a state audit)
  • Jason: Approximately 50 courses (some are offered more often than others)
  • Not just a matter of e-learning but also ADA compliance
  • Faculty must own some of this process as SMEs; this will require a full curriculum map
  • Domenic – Ideas for moving forward? All courses need to go through CM process

Discussion on Steps/Process: Course Map, QM Reviews by CTE

  • Bojan – Audit which courses have already been certified. Reach out to course owner (many adjuncts teaching courses).
  • Domenic – Identify leaders in each school; create a schedule for course mapping. “Peer to Peer change is the most effective”; should be departmental versus top-down
  • Due Dates to conduct ETC QM Reviews – 11 dates in 3 cycles
  • Kristi – Need to consider equity as some instructors may be over-burdened with UG course transitions; Jason – we should review with college school directors.
  • Jason – Triage the 50 courses to (a) Courses offered most often/rarely offered (b) Level of QM
  • Jason – will relay information to school leaders

Hollywood (High Enrollment Courses) Discussion (Jason)

  • Leading to microcredentials. 4 hours or so. These include engaging videos, asynchronous activities (Articulate/Rise 360 examples)
  • Ed tech courses are very appropriate for this

Domenic

  • Considering new priorities and institutional strategy, we may need to rethink Blue Ribbon, which emphasizes 16 week courses, and instead focus on module approaches

Strategy for Undergrad Course Transition

  • Audit the 50 courses; QM levels
  • Identify Leaders
  • Identify course owners
  • Target communication to courses/owners

Strategy to Discuss Broader Strategy

  • Workshop to discuss approaches to this transition
  • Jason – will explore funding to support
  • Walter – suggest we discuss interoperability

Closing

Helena – Defer discussion AI / Generative AI attribution
