About the Program
The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education prepares the next generation of educators to cultivate equitable classroom experiences for all children. Students who complete the program are eligible for professional certification in Elementary Education (grades K-6) with both Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsements.
Key features of this initial teacher preparation program consist of:
- Supervised clinical experiences in local elementary schools each semester where students apply, extend, and reflect on the concepts, questions, theories, and teaching models studied in university-based courses
- A full year internship in an elementary classroom during the senior year to promote intensive professional development with practicing elementary school teachers in a whole school/community context
- Themed block scheduling with courses taken alongside a motivated cohort of peers
- Specialized coursework that prepares students to work with culturally and linguistically diverse learners and to become actionable leaders in and beyond the classroom
